Walks & Trails

Grosmont is based in an ideal location for walking. As well as a variety of local walks, which can be started in Grosmont itself, there are also plenty of well-known trails, which can be attempted using Grosmont as a base.

We have compiled a selection of these walks and outlined them below. We've also put together a list of 10 walks around Grosmont and a detailed walk from the Angel Inn.

Three Castles Walk

A circular walk of about 30 kms (19 miles), which links the three castles of Grosmont, Skenfrith and White Castle.

Monnow Valley Walk

A linear walk of 65 kms (40 miles) which follows the River Monnow Valley from Monmouth to below Hay Bluff where it links up with the Offa's Dyke Path

Offa's Dyke Path

From Chepstow to Prestatyn, this 285 km (177 miles) goes through eight counties and crosses the border between England and Wales about 20 times. It passes within a few miles of Grosmont.

Walks in the Brecon Beacons

There is a variety of walking to be had in the Beacons, which include walks ranging from strenuous mountain walking to gentle walks along the canal. There are also walks of special interest such as Wildlife Walks and also Easy Access Routes.

Wye Valley Walk

A 218 km (136 miles) walk from Chepstow to Plynlimon, along the River Wye. There are plenty of shorter local walks, both linear and circular, which link to the main walk, eight of which are in Monmouthshire.
