Grosmont Produce Show
"A wonderful display and selection of fruit and vegetables". "The most exhibitors ever". "The best show yet". "Wow!"
Just a few of the comments regarding Grosmont Produce Show, which as usual was held on August Bank Holiday Saturday in St Nicholas Nave, provided by a total of forty different exhibitors.
Despite or maybe because of the recent rain,we were amazed by the home grown vegetables, fruit and flowers. We were treated to a very artistic selection of crafts, pictures and photographs. Tthere were nine entries in the egg class alone, and the variety of baking and preserves kept our judges sampling.
If there was any disappointment, it was the low number of children's entries, although it was lovely to have some new young people taking part this year.
The prizes were awarded at 4.45pm and we are grateful to Mrs Sylvia James for agreeing to hand them out.
Winner of the Perpetual Shield for the second year running, for most points in the vegetable and fruit classes, was Mr David Tuson, following in the steps of his many times winning grandfather, Roy Thomas.
The "Gold Star" Children's Shield, was once again awarded to Miss Stephanie Farr.
The "Ted Thickpenny Memorial Tankard" for best Vegetable Exhibit in show, was awarded to Mr David Prosser for his Squashes.
The Cup for the most points in Baking/Domestic was awarded to Mrs Elaine Probert.
The Cup for the Best Flower Exhibit was awarded to Mrs Pam Reynolds for her Orchid Houseplant and the Cup for the Best Item of Craft in Show was awarded to Mr Geoff Reynolds for his Yew Goblet with three rings on the stem.
I would like to thank our Judges, and thanks go to Chris W, Christina, Jan C, Jane F, Jane M, Jeremy, John C, Karen, Maggie, Marnie, Mary B, Michiel, Pam, Tony, and anyone I may have forgotten for their help in setting up, helping during the day, making and serving the refreshments and clearing up. A fantastic team effort.
A small profit has been donated to Nave funds.
