DORE COMMUNITY TRANSPORT
THE DRIVING FORCE
Community transport schemes are charities; they operate on a shoestring and use a small army of volunteers driving their own cars and sometimes specialised vehicles. There are 7 community transport schemes operating in Herefordshire - the one covering the Golden Valley area is called Dore Community Transport. In addition to providing transport in the Golden Valley and surrounding area, we also have pleasure in offering our service to parishioners from Grosmont. We have 3 wheelchair accessible vehicles. In addition to this we have a team of volunteers who will drive their own vehicles for us when necessary.
Who is community transport for?
The simple answer to this is.........EVERYONE AND ANYONE. Users of Dore Community Transport are of all ages and abilities but they all have one thing in common - they are without transport or access to public transport and cannot get to for example: doctors, hospitals, social events, shops, job interviews or training, church, learning facilities, lunch out, bridge club etc. etc........the list is endless. Passengers pay a contribution towards the cost of their journey, loosely based on local bus fares. Herefordshire Council subsidies the service and we have also been supported in recent years by the Big Lottery, The Evesom Trust, Lloyds TSB and Advantage West Midlands and EF Bulmer Foundation.
Volunteer drivers very generously give their time to enable those without the means or ability to get around easily to live as full and independent a life as possible.
The rules are few but essential in order to operate - community transport schemes are NOT cheap taxi services!
If you feel that DORE Community Transport could help you or someone you know to get out and about, please call Jo on 0845 2020 144 for further information. The phone line is manned from 9.00 to 12.00 each weekday morning and messages can be left at all other times. Please note, however, that due to high levels of demand we really need a minimum of 48 hours notice for bookings - more if possible please.
If you have a few hours to spare each week and feel that you could use your car keys to unlock lives, please call us on 0845 2020 144 without delay.
