Awarded an MBE

Friday 1st January 2010

Our congratulations go to Jean Prosser.

"Reverend Dr Jean Prosser, from Abergavenny, has been awarded an MBE for services to conservation and to the community.

Rev Prosser, a mother of three grown up children and a grandmother to five grand children, set up the Village Alive Trust after renovating a church in 2002-03.

The conservation group has gone on to renovate 10 listed buildings, and it is currently restoring its third church.

Rev Prosser, who is priest in charge of the Grosmont parish of churches, said the MBE had come as a "total surprise" to her.

"I don't feel it's the result of my efforts, but the result of other people's efforts," she added.

Rev Prosser said the Village Alive Trust was founded after she helped renovate Llangattock Lingoed Church, near Abergavenny.

Farmers with derelict listed buildings then approached her and she set about applying for grants to restore properties such as a cider house and a well house."
