Grosmont Produce Show 2009

For only the second year, the whole Produce Show was displayed in our beautiful Nave, which, as always, is the perfect location to display crafts, photographs and the diverse selection of fruits, vegetables and home made produce (including eggs).

A total of 200 entries were received, 38 from children and youngsters 16 and under.

Sadly, it was obviously a poor date for flowers, as the floral arrangements and flower section were very low on numbers.

  • This year Mr Roy Thomas, after many years, relinquished the Annual Shield for the most points in the vegetable and fruit section, in favour of his grandson David Tuson. (Roy's advice and supervision had obviously shone through!)

  • The Ted Thickpenny Memorial Tankard was awarded to Mrs Elaine Probert for her green peppers.

  • Mrs Mary Thomas again won the Cup for most points in the Domestic section.

  • The Cup for best item of craft was awarded to Mrs Karen Farr for her decorated turquoise egg.

  • The Cup for best flower entry was awarded to Mrs Lynne Potter for her orchid houseplant.

  • The Children’s Shield for the most points in the children’s section was awarded to Miss Stephanie Farr.

Thanks go to Mrs Nora Brierly who kindly presented the awards; to Geoff and Pam Reynolds and their team for the refreshments, as well as to all who donated cakes, time and effort in making the show a success.

Our judges this year were Mr Tony Savager (Fruit, Vegetables and Flowers), Ms Jane Fleming (Domestic) and Diana Stainforth (Childrens and Craft) with assistance from Patrick Boyd. Thanks go to them and their assistants, the Nave Committee and Golden Valley Insurance for printing assistance.

Watch out for a revamped schedule for 2010 - the new Produce Show committee will soon be getting their heads together.

Lynn
